Description
Clomid is a non-steroidal anti-estrogen medication that works by binding to estrogen receptors in the ovaries and pituitary gland. It has a dual effect:
- In low-estrogen conditions, it mimics estrogen.
- In high-estrogen conditions, it blocks estrogen.
Effects:
- Low doses increase gonadotropin secretion (FSH, LH, prolactin), stimulating ovulation.
- High doses suppress gonadotropin release.
- Used to treat female infertility (anovulation) and male infertility (low sperm count).
Dosage Instructions
For ovulation induction (women):
- Start with 50 mg once daily at bedtime for 5 days, beginning on day 5 of the menstrual cycle.
- If ovulation does not occur within 30 days, the dose may be increased to 100–150 mg/day or extended to 10 days.
For male infertility (off-label use):
- Dosage varies; follow doctor's instructions strictly.
Important:
- Never exceed prescribed doses.
- Take at the same time daily for best results.
Precautions
Before using Clomid, inform your doctor if you have:
- Liver disease
- History of depression or blood clots (thrombophlebitis)
- Vision problems
Possible side effects:
- Blurred vision, dizziness (avoid driving/operating machinery).
- Ovarian enlargement (abdominal/pelvic pain).

Contraindications
